Request data deletion — Carspel
This page explains how Carspel users can delete some or all personal data we hold, with or without closing their account. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
Steps to request deletion
Option A — Delete specific data in the app (keep your account)
Sign in to Carspel on your phone or at app.carspel.ca, then remove individual records yourself:
- Fuel or energy entries — open the entry → delete from the edit screen.
- Service entries — open the entry → delete (attached photos or files are removed with the entry).
- Trip / mileage entries — open the trip → delete.
- Trip memories — remove individual memories where the feature is available.
- Vehicles — archive, mark sold, or delete/dispose of a vehicle following the in-app vehicle lifecycle flows.
- Profile photo — remove from your profile in Users.
- Loyalty cards and similar items — delete from the relevant list in the app.
No email is required for these self-service deletions while you remain signed in.
Option B — Delete your entire account and associated data
- Sign in to Carspel.
- Open Users.
- Choose Leave household.
- Select Delete my Carspel account and confirm.
See also account deletion in our Privacy Policy.
Option C — Email us (partial or full deletion, or if you cannot sign in)
Email hello@carspel.ca from the address on your Carspel account (or explain if you no longer have access). Tell us what you want deleted. We verify identity before processing sensitive requests.
What is deleted
Depending on your request:
- Partial deletion (Option A or targeted email): The specific logs, attachments, vehicles, or profile fields you delete or ask us to remove from our backend (Supabase database and object storage).
- Full account deletion (Option B or confirmed email request): Your Carspel account profile, authentication record, and personal data we control that is tied to your user ID, including logs and uploads stored under your account, subject to the exceptions below.
- Shared household: If you delete your account while in a shared household, household vehicles and logs that belong to the remaining members stay with that household; your personal profile and your membership are removed.
What may be kept (and for how long)
- Backups and caches — deleted data may persist in encrypted backups or CDN caches for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) before automatic purge, except where law requires longer retention.
- Legal, billing, and fraud records — we may retain minimal transaction or compliance records where required (for example subscription entitlement history from Google Play) even after account deletion.
- Aggregated or de-identified diagnostics — crash or performance telemetry in systems such as Sentry may no longer be linked to you after account deletion; retention follows our Sentry project settings (see Privacy Policy §9).
- Data you exported or shared — copies you emailed, printed, or shared outside Carspel are not under our control.
- Household data after partial deletion — deleting your own fuel, service, or trip rows removes those records; other members’ data in the same household is unaffected.
When deletion takes effect
- In-app deletions — take effect when you confirm in the app (server-side removal is immediate; local offline cache may clear on next sync).
- Email requests — we aim to complete verified requests within 30 days, and sooner where possible (GDPR/CPRA timelines may apply by region).
