# Defensible trip logs for tax records

> Canonical marketing page: https://www.carspel.ca/mileage/

Carspel is not tax-filing software. The trip-log PDF/CSV is a structured record for you and your adviser. An allowance column appears only when a published official table exists for that country, vehicle type, and date.

## What the log keeps

- Date, from/to, purpose
- Start and end odometer when entered; optional year-opening odometer appendix on the tax-year PDF
- First-class categories: business, personal, commute, medical, charity
- Who drove, when the household has more than one member
- PDF and CSV with the same filters

## Illustrative rates (honest limits)

- **United States:** per-trip IRS business / medical / charity rates on the optional column. Personal and commute unpriced. 2026 uses a simplified annual table, not the mid-year IRS split. Confirm at https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates
- **Canada:** CRA-style business km only (5,000 km band). Medical km listed with the 40/80 km one-way footnote. No invented medical dollars. Eligibility stays with the taxpayer.
- **AU, GB, IE, NZ, ZA:** published business tables only, where seeded. Every country still gets the full trip export without a dollar column.

## How trips get in

- Typed trip, Live trip (GPS while Add trip is open), or Auto Trip drafts you Confirm (Family, Ultimate, Trial)
- MileIQ trip CSV import maps Category and Purpose. One-time copy, not a live sync
